Adoption Contact Register
I am an adopted person, how do I contact a birth relative?
The Adoption Contact Register was set up to put adopted people and their birth relatives in touch with each other if that is what they both wish.
Providing you are over 18 and know your:
- original birth name
- date of birth
- the full name(s) of your birth mother (and birth father if known)
and the General Register Office holds a record of your birth, you are eligible to have your details entered on to the Adoption Contact Register.
If you are not able to complete the details relating to your birth, your adoptive parents may be able to tell you. Alternatively you can apply for access to your original birth record.
To apply and be entered onto the Adoption Contact Register, see How to apply and pay.
