Introduction
The General Register Office (GRO) and local register offices can only provide information in the form of a certificate.
GRO has responsibility for events registered in England and Wales
GRO also holds records of events registered overseas
There are equivalent General Register Offices for Scotland and Northern Ireland
Births, marriages and deaths for England and Wales- Registrations
Introduced in July 1837. You can order these certificates from:

Legal adoptions
Introduced in 1927. You can order these certificates from the General Register Office:
