Stillbirths
Registering a stillbirth
Introduction
We understand that it can be very daunting to have to face registering a stillbirth. These pages give you step-by-step guidance on what is required and what is involved – but if you would rather speak to someone personally, please contact your local register office. To find details of your local or other register office, visit the appropriate county council (or London or Metropolitan borough) website. Please put the town or postcode into the search box on the right hand side of this page to return a link to the website you need. Alternatively, addresses and phone numbers for local register offices can be found in the local area phone book.
A stillbirth which takes place in England can only be registered in English but stillbirths in Wales may be registered bilingually in English and Welsh.
These pages explain what to do for a stillbirth which takes place in England and Wales – please visit the registration websites for Scotland and Northern Ireland for information on how to register a stillbirth in these countries.
Please click on a link from the right hand side of the page for more detailed information about this topic.
