Online Ordering
Copies of civil registration records can be ordered in a variety of formats via this website with searchable online indexes to assist in finding records where currently available. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website, please see the GRO Website Accessibility Statement for more information.
Telephone Ordering
Orders for certificates can be made by telephone on + 44(0)300 123 1837. A member of staff will complete an online form for you over the telephone and take payment using a credit or debit card.
Text Relay
Text Relay connects people using a textphone (sometimes called a Minicom) with people using a telephone or another textphone. It lets deaf, hard of hearing and speech impaired people stay in touch with friends and family, and call businesses over the telephone.
To contact the General Register office using the Text Relay service text: 18001 (followed by) 0300 123 1837. This service is available 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday. Saturday 9am to 4pm).
Please note that calls may be recorded for training and monitoring purposes.

Additional Formats
Information contained in a birth, death, marriage, civil partnership, still-birth or adoption entry can be provided in Braille. Any request for a Braille translation should be made at the time of ordering and will extend the despatch period by an additional 5 working days.
Large print and Welsh language versions of our printed literature are available on request.
Wheelchair access
The General Register Office is located at Southport, Merseyside. If you wish to speak to a member of staff in person, our office has designated parking bays, wheelchair access and toilet facilities for disabled customers.
